Taxi drivers protest again against Uber

November 14, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Once again the red taxis protest against the Government’s position regarding Uber.

After the demonstration, the union met at the offices of the Traffic Directorate, in order to file their complaints to the transport authorities. The leaders of the movement had a meeting with Mario Calderón, director of the Traffic Police.

We are very worried because drivers in this country are abandoned. We are concerned about the inaction of the Government and the failure to comply with the guidelines of the President, the Minister of Transport and its people, as well as the Traffic Police, they have not wanted to comply,”

said Gilberth Ureña, one of the representatives of the union.

The leader insisted that in the Ministry of Finance there was an

leak of remittances without control […] There are thousands and thousands of millions that Uber takes out of the country without paying taxes,”

said Ureña, who also suggested that the government is being corrupt by allowing the executives of the controversial application to work in the country.

The Vice President of the country, Ana Helena Chacón, signed an executive decree – in less than eight days – to install Uber on a platform in a free zone, exempt from taxes. Free zones are for those who produce and export. Uber does not import a damn thing. Allowing Uber to work in the country is complete act of corruption,”

expressed Ureña.
