Three people were arrested for illegally logging trees

Officers from the Public Force in Barra del Colorado arrested three people suspected of illegally logging large numbers of trees. The incident occurred in Puerto Lindo of Colorado district in Pococí, the Caribbean zone of the country.

The detainees are two children under 14 and 15 years and a 25-year-old adult surnamed Murillo.

Public Force seized two chainsaws, a motorcycle and 364 logs of the Miquartia guianensis species, known as Manú negro. It can reach 40 to 70 meters height.

Officials from the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) valued the seized wood in more than one million colones .

The man was introduced to the Prosecutor’s Office of Pococí, while the Juvenile Criminal Prosecutor of the canton will be in charge of the minors.

The wood, tools and motorcycles were left at the Public Prosecutor’s Office for due process.
