Turrialba maintains passive but constant eruption

February 15, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Since February 2nd, Turrialba Volcano has remained in constant eruption.

Floribeth Vega, expert of the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) reported that they have received reports of ash fall from places like Moravia, Coronado and Tibás, although there has also been ash fall in Alajuela.

“The ash emissions have been constant and although in some moments the quantity may decrease a little, it has been constant. It is probable that all the inhabitants of the Central Valley are perceiving it at some point of the day. The plume does not rise high, it is not explosive, but it is constant,”

said Vega.

On the other hand, María Martínez, an expert from the same entity, said that the signal of tremor gained amplitude between Tuesday and Wednesday.
