Turrialba Volcano is still very active

February 6, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Turrialba Volcano’s activity remains constant. According to OVSICORI, there have been low-frequency volcanic earthquakes.

Last Friday, the National Emergency Commission (CNE), activated the protocol establishing a perimeter of 5 kilometers around the volcano.

The decision was made after the locals reported strange noises coming from the volcano.

On Saturday, officials from Turrialba Volcano National Park reported ashfall at Finca La Central, located at the base of the colossus. Reports of falling material were also recorded in Moravia and Barrio Aranjuez, aswell as the smell of sulfur in Sabanilla de Montes de Oca.

On Sunday there were no reports of falling material in other areas.
