Yellow alert was declared due to heavy rains

November 22, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The National Emergency Commission (CNE), declared a yellow alert throughout the country, due to the low pressure system that has affected the national territory in recent days. It has intensified and it has become a tropical depression.

The US National Hurricane Center stated that the tropical depression affecting Costa Rica could turn into a hurricane.

Experts say that the phenomenon would become a hurricane at 1 am on November 23th. The country would be affected by heavy downpours and winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour.

Due to the green alert, local emergency committees must be alert and active. However, with the yellow alert, they should increase their precautions.

On November 21st, the National Meteorological Institute (IMN) reported that a low pressure system, especially in the Caribbean, the North Zone and the South Pacific, would cause rains in the national territory.
