Foreigner arrested for carrying weapons without license

July 28, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Police officers were alerted of a vehicle parked in such manner that it was blocking the passage of other vehicles near park La Merced, in San José.

As they approached the vehicle, the officers noticed that the driver and the passenger were asleep and that there were two firearms in the floor of the car.

The officers woke the driver, who was apparently under the influence of alcohol. The man said the weapons were his and that he had bought them long ago. However, he had no permits or license to carry and only one of the guns was registered.

The subject was identified with the surname Mamani, 41, a Peruvian national, who has been investigated twice for assault with weapon and reckless driving.

According to the officers, the man had a strong smell of alcohol, but they could not coordinate with the Traffic Police to use the breathalyzer because the subject was not driving.
